Discover the best behind the rest in South East Queensland
South East Queensland’s best-kept secret is the picturesque mountain rainforest region between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, the Gold Coast Hinterland. Often referred to as the green behind the gold, the Gold Coast Hinterland and the Scenic Rim, the region around Tamborine Mountain is part of the Border Ranges.
Officially, this suburb is called Tamborine Mountain but is commonly referred to as Mount Tamborine - although technically that is incorrect. Less than an hour from the Brisbane CBD and about 40 minutes from the Gold Coast, visitors will find a peaceful haven with breathtaking scenery, ancient rainforest, boutique wineries, interesting shops, galleries, eateries and adventure. Adventurous travellers and people who enjoy the great outdoors will find endless opportunities for fun and excitement. It is the perfect location for family holidays.
Take an easy drive to this beautiful area and discover unspoilt countryside, national parks, wildlife in natural habitat, working farms, vineyards, and the world’s smallest distillery. Adventurers can take the challenge of Australia’s longest and highest ropes course.
Rock hounds can find gemstone-filled thundereggs hidden when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Astronomers can discover the night sky of their dreams. This region is best explored by road, there is so much to see and do in this diverse destination. Tamborine Mountain, Canungra and Beaudesert are the focal points. Tamborine Mountain has the most to offer visitors. Canungra and Beaudesert are small country towns servicing the farming communities of the region.
Tamborine Mountain has golf courses, hotels and a variety of eateries covering everything from gourmet fare to fast food. Gallery Walk offers a variety of shops and dining venues but the most exciting destination is Thunderbird Park on the corner of Cedar Creek Falls and Tamborine Mountain Road at Eagle Heights.
