Molendinar is becoming popular with first home buyers and leaving behind its older, shady past. The young set are finding Molendinar more affordable and yet it is still close to the CBD, major shopping centres, Gold Coast Hospital, Griffith University and many private schools.
It is also home to the second largest daily newspaper in Australia - the Gold Coast Bulletin. In 1969 the Gold Coast City Council began the first stage of commercial development of the Molendinar Industrial Estate. Since then, the suburb has become a centre for industry on the Gold Coast. Employment opportunities in this suburb are flourishing due to its industrial and commercial precinct.

The suburb is not well known for any recreation facilities but its neighbouring suburbs are full of fun things to do - Southport, Ashmore, Labrador - and really on the Gold Coast the beach is always 15 minutes away at the most.
