Main Beach Aerial Looking East
Main Beach is attached to the main coastal peninsula stretching from iconic Surfers Paradise to The Spit, but it's practically an island in itself and is surrounded on three sides by the Nerang River, Broadwater and then by the ocean on the east. The whole area is only about 1km square, but it's highly developed and includes plenty of parkland.
The marina you can see in the photo is Southport Yacht Club (although it is located in Main Beach) which in 2021 celebrated its 75th anniversary. The club is known throughout the sailing world for their facilities and restaurant. The dress code for the restaurant has been relaxed over time and is now a far cry from the 1960s when the Executive Board preferred men to be dressed all in white.
