The Gold Coast's public transport system is adequate for getting between your apartment and the nearest giant shopping centre, but if you really want to get out and enjoy the Gold Coast like a local, you're going to have to hire a car at some stage. Places like Tedder Avenue in Main Beach, out-of-the-way beaches like The Spit, any attraction not on the Gold Coast highway, and most importantly, the beautiful Hinterland are not easily accessible by bus. Taxis will take you wherever you want to go, but when car rental prices start from around $23 a day, it's usually cheaper to have your own vehicle.

The Gold Coast road system is relatively easy to navigate and well sign-posted, so finding your way around won't be difficult. Thrifty

Thrifty is one of the biggest rental car chains in the world and have rental locations in Surfers Paradise and at the Gold Coast airport. Thrifty don't offer the same personal, local service, or commitment to value for holiday makers as a company like Costless, but they do have a bigger range, so if you're after a large vehicle like a four wheel drive, a mini bus, or a prestige car, they may be a better option.

Prices start at around $55 a day for a Hyandai Getz; a Holden Astra convertible or a large 4WD will cost you about $100 a day.

Costless Car Rental

As the name suggests, Costless's mission is to provide "the best possible vehicle at the fairest possible price". They are an independent local company, have been in business on the Gold Coast for over 13 years, and have been winners in the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards.
