There a 48 caravan parks on the Gold Coast and the majority of them are in the south where less land has been signed off for hi rise development. Tweed Heads, the famous border town, has six caravan parks, while Chinderah, a small village just over the border on the Tweed River has no less than seven (a surprisingly high number for a village with only 17 streets — although the town is also endowed with its own indoor sports centre, church, scout hall, cemetery, golf course, freeway and sewage treatment plant — don't let that put you off though).
The majority of caravan parks on the Gold Coast are located beside, or at least a short walk from a substantial body of water (usually the Pacific Ocean) — which is good news for travelers looking for a cool dip after they've unhooked the towbar and plugged in the power.
If a seaside vista isn't important (or in your budget) then there are also a number of great parks with excellent facilities located away from the coastline in suburbs like Ashmore, Mudgereeba, North Tamborine and Oxenford — but be warned, Summer temperatures can vary considerably once you leave the coastal strip, so remember to ask the park manager if they have a pool, and whether it does actually contain H20.
Gold Coast Camping Grounds
The Gold Coast has become world famous for its hi rise accommodation but if you know where to look you can find some fantastic camping grounds scattered in incredibly picturesque places. South Stradbroke Island is perhaps the most popular spot to pitch a tent (but remember the Aeroguard) and there are a number of great spots in the mountain Hinterland around Canungra, Binnaburra and Mount Tamborine.
