Quiksilver Pro Surfing Titles
With some of the greatest waves in the world at the doorstep (albeit a sandy doorstep) the Gold Coast is the natural home to the Quiksilver Pro, the first event on the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) World Tour - the most prestigious surfing competition on earth.
The competition is held wherever the best waves are on the day, and takes in an area from South Strabroke Island to Ballina in NSW - cyclones permitting, the home of the tour is at Snapper Rocks in Coolangatta where the legendary new wave breaks all the way to Kirra providing the longest rideable waves in the ocean.
Magic Millions Horse Racing Carnival
In the second week of January every year the glamorous Gold Coast is
the venue for the Magic Millions Yearling Sales and ten days of
Carnival and society events surrounding the Magic Millions raceday.
Two One Million dollar races are the highlight of the raceday, with only graduates of the Magic Millions Sales eligible to compete.
The Magic Millions Sales and raceday has established its reputation on the international scene, and has fast become a "must be there" event worldwide.
Blues on Broadbeach
The annual Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival has attracted over 300,000 people since it's inception in 2002 making this a world class event.
Transcending the barriers of age, gender and culture Blues on Broadbeach is one of Australia’s iconic Blues Festivals. The Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival is unique as it feeds on the unique village like atmosphere and relaxed ambience that is Broadbeach.
Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show
Attracting visitors from around the world, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is well known for the spectacular array of the marine industries finest. Situated in Australia's leading and most prestigeous leisure boat building region, Sanctuary Cove is the perfect place to see the glitz of local and international glamour on the high seas.
The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show has attracted more than 130 exhibitor applications within two weeks of bookings opening.
The Gold Coast Airport Marathon
In one of the most desirable holiday destinations in the world – the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia - is an event that motivates and challenges tens of thousands of people of all ages and abilities.
The Gold Coast Airport Marathon has dubbed 2010 as ‘Year of the Marathon’ to celebrate the 2,500th anniversary of the original marathon. Back in 490BC, Athenian soldier Pheidippides ran to Athens from the battlefield of Marathon where the Greek Army had won a crucial battle against the invading Persian Army. The message read “Rejoice, we are victorious”.
Schoolies Week
The history of Schoolies Week probably extends back to
ancient Greece when the first formal schools were created, and hence
the first formal school graduations. Things would have been simple
then, you and your mate Alexius would have finished up at the academy
and headed over to Ithicus's house and spent seven days drinking wine
in the sun and preparing for the college years.
Nowadays not an awful lot has changed - formal schooling has been around for a while, and it's now the school formal which marks the end of school and the beginning of Schoolies Week.
Armor All Gold Coast 600
This event marked the re-birth of one of the world's greatest motorsport festivals and at a heavily discounted rate on previous years! The event promises to be a motorsport and music extravaganza, offering some of the best value for money in world entertainment.
The highlight of the weekend will be 300km V8 Supercar races on both Saturday and Sunday with all teams having signed high-profile international stars as part of their endurance line-ups.
