Event Description

The 38th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon will be staged on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 July 2016 in one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world in Queensland, Australia.

Regarded as one of Australia’s premier sporting events, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon is set to attract more than 27,000 participants of all ages and abilities from Queensland, interstate and overseas.

The event program features the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge and Junior Dash 4km and 2km races which are renowned worldwide for being flat, fast and scenic running alongside the beautiful Broadwater and sparkling surf beaches.

The Gold Coast Airport Marathon is the only Australian marathon race to attain an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Road Race Gold Label, placing it in esteemed company around the world.

All competitors will enjoy the great running conditions on the Gold Coast as the climate is traditionally good for running, with low humidity, minimal wind and mild temperatures.

Runners can be sure their spirits will be kept high with huge crowds of supporters lining the streets from the start to finish and all finishers will be rewarded with a commemorative medal and certificate, plus a shirt or cap.

Visitors and locals can enjoy the free ASICS Sport & Leisure Expo at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and will even have the chance to meet and hear advice from marathon legends including Rob de Castella, Steve Moneghetti, Pat Carroll, Lee Troop and Benita Willis.

The event provides entrants with the perfect opportunity to explore one of the world’s leading holiday destinations as direct flights to Gold Coast Airport from regional Queensland, interstate and around the world are available.

The annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon is organised by Events Management Queensland – a major event management company wholly owned by the Queensland Government as part of the Tourism and Events Queensland Group.
