The Gold Coast 500 in Surfers Paradise
The original Gold Coast Indy 300 screamed into town in 1991 and was held each year until 2008. The race was popular with motorsport fans and general party lovers as Surfers Paradise streets got closed off, remodelled and a mechanical buzz from the Indy cars could be heard a few suburbs over.
The difficult track was positioned alongside the beautiful Surfers Paradise strip of beaches and weaved in between the myriad of apartment buildings. In addition to the excitement of the cars, attendees (and Gold Coast locals) could often see an incredible airshow.
While the original Indy carnival is no more, the Gold Coast is now home to the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 - an annual 4-day event held during October and part of the V8 Supercar Championship calendar. It is street racing at its best with live music and plenty of parties for revheads and revellers.
As the track has remained the same, you can see that accommodation in Surfers Paradise and Main Beach will offer a brilliant birdseye view of the race. After dark, the Broadwater Parklands will host popular national artists in a huge live music concert.
