ARSC 2015: Australasian Road Safety Conference

Event Description

Experts from across the globe will meet on the Gold Coast next week (October 14-16) to share the latest in road safety research with the hope of reducing the road toll at home and abroad.

More than 600 road and transport safety leaders will attend the 2015 Australasian Road Safety Conference being hosted by QUT’s Centre for Accident Research & Road Safety - Queensland (CARRS-Q), the Australasian College of Road Safety and Austroads.

CARRS-Q director and conference chairperson Professor Narelle Haworth said the conference was about sharing information to make roads safer and reducing road injuries and deaths.

“This conference is about taking action together, sharing the latest in research and working together to stop the deaths and serious injures that occur on our roads each and every day,” Professor Haworth said.

“With over 1200 deaths on Australian roads in the past twelve months, we can not be complacent when it comes to road safety, and we need to be doing more to protect our communities.

Lauchlan McIntosh, President of the Australasian College of Road Safety said those attending the conference would be representatives from all areas of road and transport safety including research, policing, teaching, practice and policy.

“Bringing such a diversity of groups together in such a collaborative way at ARSC2015, and showcasing the latest in research, programs and developments in the field is the best action we can take to reduce road trauma” he added.

The 2015 Australasian Road Safety Conference is the result of a successful merger of Australasia’s two premier road safety conferences: the Australasian College of Road Safety Conference, and the Australasian Road Safety Research, Policing and Education Conference.

In 2015 the Conference is supported by the Australasian College of Road Safety, Austroads, the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety - Queensland (CARRS-Q) and the Queensland Government.
