Take one look at the Surfers Paradise skyline and you'll realise that this is the holiday apartment capital of the country, of not the world. Whereas most tourist areas around the globe are full of hotels and resorts, Surfers Paradise (and indeed the rest of the Gold Coast) is full of self-contained apartments (you can view them all on our interactive Surfers Paradise map).
How do I know which apartment to book, there are so many?
Most independent Surfers Paradise apartments now subscribe to a centralised booking system such as ResOnline, which allows you to directly, and easily compare prices and features between buildings and then book directly with the apartment. Apartments that aren't with ResOnline are usually managed by a resorts group such as Stella Resorts or S8, which both have their own booking systems. If they have no affiliation with any booking system or group then you'll need to book direct with their website - make sure that if you're giving out personal details or credit card information the website has a secure connection, which you can identify by a little padlock symbol in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. (ResOnline, Stella Resorts and S8's booking systems are all reputable and secure).
Why are there so many Surfers Paradise apartments as opposed to hotels?
Because the Gold Coast made it's name as a family holiday destination, and remains to this day the most popular spot for a family holiday in the country, there has always been a strong demand for family accommodation. You can't comfortably squeeze mum, dad and 2.4 kids into most standard hotel rooms, but if you've got an extra bedroom it's a lot easier. It also makes the holiday a lot cheaper if you've got your own kitchen and you don't have to eat out at a restaurant for every meal.
How do I get the best deal?
The price of Surfers Paradise apartments is dictated by the old economic principles of supply and demand. When it's in the high season, prices are high, when it's in the low season prices are low (it's not rocket science). The easiest way to get a good deal is to book when most other people aren't. If you have to take a holiday when everyone else does, or if the appeal of Indy, Schoolies, or the Gold Coast summer sun is drawing you like a moth to a golden sandy flame, your best bet of getting a good deal is to book in a large apartment complex or high rise just outside the main tourist strip. These places tend to have lots of availability because of the sheer number of rooms in the building, and because they are that little bit further away from the centre of town, demand isn't as high. What many people don't realise is that anywhere in Surfers Paradise is close to the beach, so you can usually save a fair bit of money by booking staying a few blocks away. The question you have to ask is, how much is each step from the surf worth?
Another point that's often overlooked is that apartments just out of the centre of town are usually a lot quieter than those right in the thick of it. Areas like Budds Beach and Paradise Island (check our Surfers Paradise map for details) are only a couple of minutes walk from the heart and soul of Surfers, but their locations are away from pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic, so if you like to go to bed, or get up early, you're likely to get a better rest, and a better rest means a better holiday.
